Random things

Of what I’ve been doing lately.

Frogged (ripped out)

yarn from Japan

Started this cowl, found a mistake, got irritated, frogged.

Actually been frogging most things these days. Knitting isn’t making happy. After I bought all this beautiful yarn from Japan, I’ve decide to take a break to let my knitting.

Baking and Jamming

Cooler weather brings baking and jamming–banana chocolate chip bread, caramelized onion, carrots, and pepper quiche, custard pie, pickled veggies for salads, mixed berries jam, almond shortbread, and blueberry custard pie.

Sunset, Beer and Friends

Last minute sunset outing with friends.

Keep on hiking

Sights from my many hikes at Aiea Loop Trail. Maybe one day I’ll get others to another trail.

Sleepy cats

Orange and Ollie napping around the house. Ollie is usually up high, too hard to get a shot.

A bundle of nerves . . .

And whatever else comes with selling your house, moving to Hawaii, transporting two cats, transporting one car and selling another, and emptying the entire content of a house that I’ve lived in for over 20+ years. Besides all of this, my house is decided it doesn’t want me to go and has thrown me several curve balls through the home inspection.

For reference of where I’ll be living

I’m sitting in my dining room this morning working this morning with two fans on at #3. This is because my ac decided to quit 10 days ago during a New Jersey muggy summer season. This is preparation for my life on Kahuanani Street where my mom said it never rains.

I can eat that whole bag by myself

It really doesn’t help the day having a giant bag of my favorite olive oil chip sitting on the dining room table all day. I need to get a little bit of credit for not opening it. Wish me luck not to open it before Saturday.

I’m trying to be positive about all with all this mayhem in my life. My friends are telling me . . .

. . . think of it’s just another project and it may be painful and annoying but you always push through and get it done.

I hope I do. I need all the fingers crossed and all luck to see me through this next few weeks.

Home

It will be changing soon. I’m moving from my 4 bedroom colonial in the Northeast back into my old childhood bedroom across the Pacific with my 2 cats. Oh my, that sound so sad. But it really isn’t. It’s only temporary, till I build a 1 bedroom apartment for me and the boys on top of my parents’ garage.

Can you see it? A tiny mid-century 1 bed apartment about the garage?

I’m moving back to be near to my parents to help with day to day issues. I guess it’s about time for this move–34 years and 363 days living away from Hawaii. I can’t even believe it’s been that long.

My Parents

The folks are in their late 80’s and need more help as Dad has given up driving. They have an aide that comes to house 2 day a week for 3 hours to help them out with things around the house or doctor appointments. I’ll be there to help out with other things and get them out and about and not stuck at home so much.

Beside me and the cats adjusting to this big move, my parents will need to get used to me being there. My old bedroom is currently functioning as a very large walk in closet for my mom. She is slowly cleaning thing out.

When I told her she needed to clean the room out for me, she said “the whole room?!” My response was “Well, I really don’t want to sleep in your closet, Mom.”

And I’ll be working remotely on east coast time so I’ll be up at 3:30 and probably asleep by 9:30 (I hope). Yes! 3:30am! Need to start work at 4:00. I got to get up earlier to feed the cats. Yes, I’m a good cat mom.

How can resist these two?

Catching Up and Day Dreaming

In the meantime, before the house is sold and August 14th creeps up quickly, I’ve been getting caught up with all my stuff before I leave and day dreaming about designing my 1 bedroom apartment above my parent’s garage.

Catching up means dealing with car stuff and catching up with the paperwork both personal and restaurant is in order for the move and what I really need to take with me. Lots of sorting and shredding is involved. All things that I hate and procrastinate.

That’s why 1 bed apartment is becoming more of an mild obsession to me. I’ve thinking small and efficient and as green as I can afford and worth the resale.

this what happens on sleepless nights

I’ve been pinning too many floor plans, mid-century and Scandinavian style items on my home board. Just things that will work with my eclectic taste. I’m also bringing home some furniture (chairs and a little desk) that I want to finish for my place.

More to come when I have more really and solid plans or news to share. Been busy keeping the house cleaning for all the showing. Cats love the open spaces to run and chase each other. Man, such the cat lady.

Repurpose, Restart, Happy New Year!

Decided to frog (rip apart–knitting term) the first sweater I ever made. It was for Oat and made with 2 strand of super soft merino wool from Morehouse Farm in NY. I decided to make a throw for my dad who is always cold in Hawaii.

2691399216_bca0487d38_oHere’s Oat wearing the sweater in Prague in 2008. This is the beginning of my Mr. Handmade.

My little Orange loved helping me with frogging the sweater.

He’s exhausted from all his hard work.

Ollie knows better to get involved with the yarn. Sleeping on my leg is his job.

This is what I’ve been doing. Trying to repurpose things that meant something to Oat. Repurposing his knit hats into shawls and wraps for Wrapped in Love. Hawaiian shirts will be turned into a patchwork quilt. And hopefully I can turn his old jean into an interesting project.

I hope this help me with a restart in 2018. Lots of changes and more to come.

Happy New Year to everyone! Hope it is good one for everyone.
